“I wanted to pursue a more fulfilling and better-paying career. I needed assistance with tuition costs and fees required to obtain a commercial driver’s license and Michigan Works! helped. This has been a great opportunity for me and my family! I'm so blessed and grateful for the program! My career coach was amazing and such a strong advocate for me to be successful, I will be forever thankful!“
Blake O.

Blake O., RN, Detroit Receiving Hospital

“I was a full-time college student in the Nursing program at SVSU and was working 18 hours a week while completing my BNS. Michigan Works! provided assistance with tuition costs and fees required to become an RN, including tuition for my last three semesters and the costs for licensing, background check and exam registration. I will be forever thankful for Michigan Works! and their educational assistance program.”
Lisa T.

Lisa T., Delta College student, with plans to transfer to MSU to pursue a major in Russian translation

“After escaping a life being subjected to human trafficking, I turned to Michigan Works! for help. I had no formal education, but they helped me improve my language skills and earn my GED. Today, I have a car and an apartment, I’m in college, working and thriving.”
Justice G.

Justice G., phlebotomist, CSL Plasma, Saginaw

“I wanted a credential and a better job with higher wages to support my family. Michigan Works! helped me get my pre-training requirements and enroll in an 8-week phlebotomy class along with paying my tuition, books, supplies and testing costs, uniforms and shoes. I received my phlebotomy technician certificate and passed the American Medical Certification Association exam. My new job is great! I started making $3 more per hour than I was at the job I had for the previous four years. I am so thankful for the help provided by Michigan Works!”
Natacha B.

Natacha B., CNA, Riversbend Rehabilitation Services

“Life has knocked me down, but I laugh and get right back up and move forward. With the help of Michigan Works! I was able to take my CNA course. They also paid for my scrubs and state testing.  With all the positivity from my career manager and her understanding of all that I went through, I was able to land a job that I love. They also helped me with some new clothes for my new beginning. I have no idea where I would be without the help of Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works!”
Brian W.

Brian W., former lead machine operator, Quad Graphics; recent grad of Tri Area Trucking School

“I am really excited to begin my new career as a truck driver with Republic Services. I especially like that I will be providing waste management and recycling service near my hometown. I want to thank Michigan Works! for making it all possible by covering the cost for books, supplies, testing fees, and tuition for my Class A commercial driver’s license.”
Allison R.

Allison R., English teacher, Carrollton High School

“Because teaching is my second career and I had to go back to school, Michigan Works helped me reach my goal by providing funding for my teaching certificate classes. I also learned invaluable information about the resources available to me even after I graduated from the program.”
Abbigail L

Abbigail L., housekeeper, Comfort Inn, Alma, working toward high school diploma/GED

“PATH is a very good program, and it helped me a lot. I came to the U.S. with a young son and spoke no English so my barriers to employment were huge. Michigan Works! helped me register for ESL classes, provided bus tickets, and clothing for interviews.”
